As one of the first manufacturers Gigabyte has started to distribute the new firmware of the type AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 for its AM4 motherboards. The new BIOS versions make the motherboards fit for the "Matisse Refresh" alias Ryzen 3000 XT as well as upcoming desktop Apus of the type Ryzen 4000 ("Renoir").

AGESA v2 for XT-Cpus and Renoir-Apus

Gigabyte has started to release numerous of its AM4 motherboards via BIOS update as well as the new firmware AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 for both the three new"Prepare Cpus with XT suffix, Ryzen 5 3600XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT and Ryzen 9 3900XT as well as for the upcoming desktop Apus aka Renoir.

Gigabyte, for example, talks about new AMD Ryzen with Radeon graphics in the release notes of the BIOS F20a of its motherboard X570 Aorus Elite (rev..0).

As the last version of the previous generation, AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 had recently included optimizations and bug fixes for memory, graphics cards and sound cards in the firmware of the AM4 platform.

New firmware with Zen 3 support

The new AGESA generation will also make motherboards ready for the new desktop processors Ryzen 4000 ("Vermeer") based on Zen 3, which are expected in the autumn. Since AMD Zen 3 has already confirmed for X470 and B450 motherboards, also selected older motherboards will be supplied with AGESA v2.

Whether and when mainboard 

manufacturers will offer corresponding BIOS updates for Zen 3, is up to them. If a motherboard receives AMD AGESA v2, it is able to deal with Ryzen XT, upcoming Renoir Apus as well as Zen 3, but older boards can lose their backward compatibility due to small BIOS Roms.

MSI with roadmap for AGESA and AGESA v2

MSI has also released several new BIOS versions with AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 and also released a roadmap for further rollout of the new firmware and AMD AGESA Combo-AM

Today, a large part of the B550 motherboards will already receive AGESA v2, in August AGESA will follow in the form of beta versions for motherboards with B350 and X370 chipsets. The motherboards with B450 and X470 chipsets are usually already supplied with AGESA

The X570-PCH is also scheduled to receive final v2 versions in mid-July, with corresponding beta versions to be released beforehand. Many X570 motherboards are currently still at AGESA
